Why Solar

Harness nature to power your ambitions

Modern life is not possible without electricity.
For reliable and sustainable supply of electricity, turn to nature harnessed by the latest technology.

Solar energy is:

▪ available all year round
▪ abundant
▪ free
▪ never exhausts
▪ healthy
▪ doesn’t have breakdowns!

Did you know that Karachi has a very good annual daily average solar power of 4.5 – 5 kWh/m2 ?
e.g: 1kW system is sufficient to continuously power for 6 hours: 3 ceiling fans, 10 LED lights, 1 TV, 1 water dispenser, 1 laptop, 1 WiFi router and 3 cordless phone / mobile phone chargers. *
* For reference only!

Don’t wait, give yourself and your family peace of mind and reduce reliance on grid electricity.

Don’t just spend your hard-earned money, but invest it in the right direction!

Did you know that as a primary power source, cost of owning a solar power system, over a period of 20 years, is comparable to what you would spend in 1 to 2 years on a generator?
Even as a backup power source, cost of owning a well designed solar system is only ½ of the cost of a good quality generator − over a 10-year window!

Why is that?

Because, solar panels

• have a long life of 25+ years
• require very little maintenance
• are designed for outdoors, so they already come weatherproof
• run on fuel which is absolutely free and abundantly available in Pakistan!

Looking beyond the initial costs, solar energy is the most cost effective energy source for Pakistan in the long run, be it:

➡ to reduce monthly electricity bill
➡ to improve quality of life
➡ to improve work potential
➡ as a backup power source or
➡ as a primary power source

Leverage net metering and earn money

Net metering allows residential and commercial customers who generate their own electricity from renewable energy sources, like solar and wind power, to feed their surplus electricity into the grid. So, for example if you are a home owner with solar energy system on your rooftop, it may generate more electricity than your need during the daytime. You can send this surplus electricity back to grid, for example K-Electric, and get credit for it. Later during the night when you use K-Electric power, its bill will be adjusted against the credit you earned, thereby, reducing your overall monthly bill.

Net metering framework regulations were passed by NEPRA in 2015, allowing residential and commercial consumers of most major electricity providers in Pakistan for net metering. In Karachi, K-Electric has started accepting applications from its consumers.

You may find some useful information at:

• Net-metering Reference Guide for Electricity Consumer from AEDB (Alternative Energy Development Board), Ministry of Water & Power, Federal Government of Pakistan

Protect our today and tomorrow from harmful effects of fossil fuels

Fossil fuels are not just expensive to buy, they also have another hidden, and extremely harmful cost: air pollution. Storing and transporting petrol and diesel, especially for home consumers, is hazardous and requires special care to avoid direct contact. But worse is when they are burnt as they send out harmful fumes, mainly CO2 in air directly affecting our health, especially that of our children. Even with increased spending on medical bills, we can not maintain optimum health with bad air quality.

When used in power generators, they also send out noise pollution. Many people can recollect having to turn on air conditioning just to be able to close windows and shut out loud generator noise in one’s own home. Now that’s expensive!
The worst affect however, is the gradual shift in balance of our Eco-system causing climatic changes and more extreme living conditions for all humanity in general.

Despite of lower industrialization than global pace, 3 of Pakistan’s cities are in the list of top 25 cities with most polluted air: Peshawar, Rawalpindi and Karachi. While there are many other factors contributing to our air quality, petrol and diesel generators have been the most common form of backup power in shops, offices, restaurants and homes in Pakistan for a few decades now.
